The Funky’s Flights Warp Trick

Several levels contain secret warp barrels — these are invisible barrels in specific locations that instantly transport DK and Diddy to a later level. The warps are:

  • Winky’s Walkway (World 1): Walk to the left side of the screen at the very start — a hidden barrel warps to World 2
  • Snow Barrel Blast (World 4): Below the level’s first visible barrel, a hidden warp to World 5
  • Tanked Up Trouble (World 5): Allows skipping to World 6

Using all three warp barrels allows completing the game in four levels from the start.

Candy’s Save Points

Throughout the game, Candy Kong’s save barrels allow saving progress mid-world. Entering and exiting a save barrel saves the game without spending a life. Make liberal use of these — they are scattered every few levels and there’s no cost to using them.

Rambi’s Secret Room

In Winky’s Walkway and other early levels, look for a big Rambi icon against a wall. DK and Diddy can break open this “Animal Crate” to receive the animal buddy. In some stages, an arrow with ”→” points to a hidden bonus room entry where animal buddies are permanently stored.

Bonus Stage Completion for 101%

The game tracks 101% completion (not 100%) because bonus stages count separately. To reach 101%:

  • Complete all 7 worlds
  • Find all bonus stages (2-3 per regular level)
  • Collect all KONG letters in every stage
  • Complete all boss stages

KONG Letter Locations Guide

Each of the regular 40 stages contains four letters spelling K-O-N-G. They must be collected in any order within a single run (you don’t need to collect them in K-O-N-G sequence).

World 1 - Kongo Jungle:

  • K: Kongo Jungle — at the start, visible on first platform
  • O: Ropey Rampage — above the first rope in the main section
  • N: Reptile Rumble — hidden below a platform in the underground section
  • G: Coral Capers — at the end of the underwater section

Collecting all KONG letters in a stage does not grant a life directly, but completing full worlds with all letters contributes to 101%.

Secret Path to Millstone Mayhem

In Vulture Culture (World 3), walk completely off the left edge of the first platform. You’ll fall into a bonus barrel that leads to a warp skipping the remainder of World 3.

Cheat: Skip Boss Levels

In the password system, entering specific passwords skips boss encounters. However, beating bosses legitimately is required for 101% completion and the true ending.

Defeating Bosses

Master Necky (World 1): Jump on his head when he lowers it. Hit 3 times.
Queen B (World 2): Hit the stinger (Winky the frog recommended for easier hits). 5 hits.
Really Gnawty (World 3): Jump on when he lands after his high bounce. 5 hits.
Master Necky Sr. (World 4): Like Master Necky but adds a second head. Hit each head 3 times.
Krow (World 5): Throw his eggs back at him when he drops them. 4 hits.
King K. Rool: The final boss. Jump on his crown 9 times total. After he “pretends” to die, the credits roll — stay and hit him more times when he reappears.

King K. Rool True Ending Trick

After defeating K. Rool and the credits roll, do not turn the game off! K. Rool gets up again and you must defeat him more times to get the true ending. Players who turned off the game thinking they were done missed the actual conclusion.
